There were many interesting stories by Melbourne's Herald newspaper
covering the deeds of the Kelly gang in 1878 & 1879, well prior to the
battle at Glenrowan.

Below are two of them.

The following article was in response to a demonstration
the previous night by a Professor Baldwin who was out to
prove that spiritualism is all bunkum.  I have just typed up
the part that related to Ned Kelly:

......One of the questions asked by a member of our staff
this morning was put to the notorious bush-
ranger Daniel Morgan. The question asked
him was, "will Ned Kelly be shot like you, or
captured?" The answer was as follows:- "Yes,
Kelly will be shot soon, just over
the border of New South Wales. He will
be there for a short time, but will return
back via the Murray Mountains, and
he will be killed by a squatter."

                    Yours truly,
                        Daniel Morgan.

No doubt the supposed prediction of
Morgan is just about as reliable as the ma-
jority of such messages usually are.

Saturday Evening November 16 1878.

They got the last part right at least!

And more of the spooks messages...

A correspondent writes:- I see that the
spiritualists complain that they have no
church or other edifice in which to worship,
where they could charge pew rents. Why do
not ask the spirits to give information
which will lead to the capture of the Kelly
Gang? The reward would build a splendid
edifice, and surely the spirits will do a little
detective work in order to raise a temple for
themselves, as well as to rid the colony of
certain desperadoes, when they will fetch and
carry various articles and utensils for the
gratification of a few sitters in a dark room.

Wednesday Evening April 30 1879.
