Home Hutchinson Ryan

Dr. Benjamin Clay Hutchinson was born in Edinburgh in 1836.

He trained as a doctor and emigrated to Australia where he married
Jane Farrell from Sandridge.

He cared for the dying of Buckland's fever epidemic in 1854.

He later moved to Chiltern & eventually set up practice in Wangaratta &
St Kilda.

Worked at the Albury hospital.

He started a medical practice in Wangaratta.

It was claimed that Dr. Hutchinson certified the death of Ned Kelly.

He died in Wangaratta 1895.

Was a mate of Hiram Crawford the coach baron.

Dr. Hutchinson was present at both the siege and Ned's execution.

Dr. Hutchinson treated the wounded at Glenrowan.

He found some  'human remains' at Glenrowan and cut off 
some of Ned's hair at the execution and sent both items home to England 
in 1880.

......................just then the nine police with Super-intendant Sadleir and Dr Hutchinson came from Benalla ...................at the railway station Kelly appeared weak from the loss of blood and some brandy was given him. He was examined in the guard's van by Dr. Nicholson & Dr. Hutchinson, who found that he was suffering from two bullet wounds in the left arm, a bullet in the right foot near the right toe, & two wounds in the right leg, those inflicted by Sergeant Steele..................................Young Reardon, who with his father had been confined in the hotel, was severely wounded in the shoulder from a bullet fired from a rifle in the hands of one of the police. The unfortunate was at once attended by the doctors already named. Although the wound is a serious one, it is not considered such as will prove fatal.
